The Acker Family Easter 2018

This was the first year my family celebrated Easter at home and I was so excited. I started the festivities a little early by decorating my home. To freshen up my living room I added some new throw pillows from Pier1 Imports. For the kids Easter Party I served tasty snacks and read a few Easter Books.

Taking family pictures is already challenging and to add a busy holiday will make it a bit more stressful. If your kids are like mine I suggest you take photos early. That is why I did not have a problem allowing them to wear their Easter clothes for the party. This gave me the opportunity to capture candid photos of them enjoying themselves versus forced posed shots. If you have a little more faith in your precious family to take photos the day of your event or holiday below are a few tips that work for me.

  • Props that fit the occasion. I used flowers to keep them seated. The next two photos are bloopers so they are SOOC shots.

  • Think like a kid and use your imagination. I asked them if there were people living on the spec. After that, they were chatting about  Horton Hears A Who, by Dr. Seuss. Mamma got all smiles and personality. This blooper is growing on me. You can not tell me that it is not little Whos on their flowers. Horton would be proud.

  • Go with the flow. If your kids are not willing to sit, try to capture some action shots. I usually play head, shoulders, knees, toes, and FREEZE. This game keeps them excited and I can capture a photo at freeze.

Can you tell that Jax and Rosie are screaming toes? This is by far my favorite thing to do when taking pictures of my family. Having them sing their favorite song or play their favorite game makes for the best pictures.

I am very proud of my little family this year they enjoyed all of the Easter festivities and most of all spending time as a family at home.

I hope you enjoyed the bloopers. They are SOOC (straight out of camera). For some reason, all the bloopers are growing on me. Is it worth an edit?

Real Life, Always. XO
